FAQs

What is the WOD?

The "WOD" is the "workout of the day." Each day a new WOD is posted to our WOD page and is part of a complete program designed to improve strength and conditioning. Our speciality is not specializing in any one modality, or way of training. The WOD is constantly varied and changes daily. For example; we run, row and jump rope. We move heavy objects. We swing kettle bells, we do pull ups and push ups. The WOD can be scaled (adjusted) to provide a suitable challenge for athletes at any level.

Do I need to be in shape before I start?

This is a hard NO and a misconception. Yes, our workouts are intense, but your workout can and will be scaled/modified to fit your level of fitness.  Crossfit at its core, is FUNCTIONAL movement. Teaching people proper movement is our passion. When you start fresh, or “out of shape” you get to learn this proper movement right from the get go, and build on it. Form-Consistency-Intensity-Increase Intensity (speed, reps, load). If you are intimidated by CrossFit, please understand that each athlete that goes to Ohana has put in the time to get to where they are. EVERYONE had a first day. So when is your first day?

What if I can't do some of the exercises or the prescribed weight?

The WOD can be scaled (adjusted) to provide a suitable challenge for athletes at any level. Our coaches have years of experience under their belt to assist each CrossFit Ohana member with their workouts. Honor where you are, and allow our coaches help you scale the workout to suit your needs.

Is there a beginners class?

Our classes are suited to every level of athlete, beginners included.  Our box is full of Lompocians with labels such as parents, grandparents, teachers, military personel, wine makers, soccer coaches, students…everyone had a first day, everyone started as a beginner. We do offer a yearly foundations class, Tues/Thurs from 6:45pm-7:45pm starting the first Tuesday in April. Please contact us if you are interested in signing up for this. Space is limited.
